0. Item Cards

Before I get into the more specific list of stats, Item Cards are a very important factor when comparing gear, and they are the most subjective item out of any of these. Some people may only use main deck for everything to get the highest damage possible, but some people may want to hold on to their Morganthe amulet for as long as possible to keep those extra blades. I know for me, I do typically sacrifice a few of my stats to get some good utility from my item cards, but this is something that’s much harder to quantify the value of. While I’m not going to rank Item Cards on this list, it’s important to keep in the back of your head while making sets.

1. 100% Power Pips and 100% Accuracy

While in battle, it’s nice to not have to worry about these two stats. As a Fire, you will typically be focused on damage output, and if you want to do ANY damage, you need to be able to actually cast your spells! Also, with the new Damage and Critical changes, it becomes a lot less beneficial to sacrifice these important stats for more damage. You do NOT want to be the wizard that goes into teamup saying to everyone “I can hit!” then have everyone blade you expecting a spectacular hit, but you can’t do anything because you fizzle the spell or fail pip before you can hit. When farming and questing consistency is key, and being able to rely on your pips and accuracy should take top priority for any setup.

2. Decent Resist / Health

“Wait what??? How is Damage not next???” You may be thinking, but hear me out. I’m NOT saying you should maximize your resist and health to a crazy degree, but it IS worth sacrificing a tiny bit of damage to have a solid amount of resist and health. For Fire, that would be 40 or more resist and 8-9k health. Sometimes you sacrifice a bit of resist / health for more damage, but as long as you have a decent amount of both, you will be good. Now, unlike the previous criteria, this is not a universally applicable rule for every situation. If you’re farming with a 4-player group, which now guarantees you always go first, and you’re going to take out the boss first turn, then there’s no reason to have Resist or Health… BUT again, with the new damage and crit changes, it’s almost impossible that there will be any situation where having a few extra points of damage will mean the difference between winning or losing a battle, thus if you just want to farm for gear once, it’s better to have a set with some good resist and health. My friend and I quested through the entire world of Lemuria using a balanced setup, and there were zero battles where having extra damage would have changed anything. In the end, you’re better use to your teammates alive and doing a bunch of damage rather than dying quickly and becoming a burden on your support players.

3. High Damage

Here it is! What you’ve all been waiting for! After you are consistent with your pips and accuracy and have a bit of defense, you can gather a high amount of damage! With the new damage stat changes, after you reach 150% damage, the amount of damage increase you get for each point of damage on your gear, becomes less and less. It’s a little bit complicated, but check out Charlie’s Damage and Resist Calculator to test it out for yourself. This means, you should NOT max out your damage to the absolute maximum at this point because it may have no effect. For example, if you change 10% resist for 3 damage points, that’s not 3% damage, but probably closer to 1% or lower depending on your damage. This doesn’t mean that you should aim for 150% and no higher, but it just means that damage doesn’t become as useful as you think and it’s not necessary to absolutely maximize it over all other stats.

4. Pierce

I used to never run more than 5 or so pierce on my main PvE setup in the past, and I quickly learned how important it actually is! In PvP, this is SUPER important, as everyone knows, but in PvE it can be super helpful to have as well! There’s not a ton of gear pieces that give pierce, and you shouldn’t have to sacrifice damage to get it, but having around 30 pierce for Fire is a great investment. You use mainly jewels to get this number, and this makes it so you pierce through mob resist to the point where you don’t have to convert any enemy that isn’t a boss! It also pierces ALL the way through a Brace or Fortify. This becomes a huge time saver while questing and farming. Also, if your enemies decide to Tower Shield or Legion Shield, you can pierce all the way through it! With pierce, you are ready for almost any situation and don’t have to require an absolute open hit to do any damage. Statistically, each point of pierce you have against and enemy with resist or a shield, deals exponentially more damage than having more damage would. Again, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice much to get this, but it’s an underrated stat that more PvE setups should have.

5. Critical

With the recent Critical changes, you can no longer critical 100% of the time for 2.0 damage, your crit depends on the enemy and is never 100% and rarely is 2.0. Also, the amount of crit you have matters very little. Gaining even 100 crit could have little to no impact. The formula for this stat is pretty complicated, but it was changed in a way where you don’t really have to think about it anymore as a stat. You shouldn’t completely ignore it, it’s always better to have more crit than none, but without consistency, it’s better to just make sure you can kill without relying on a critical.

6. Shadow Pip Rating

I’m not sure if anybody knows exactly how the new shadow pip rating actually works, and you shouldn’t sacrifice much to get this. It’s a pretty random statistic, but it’s nice to have a good number here with Fire’s best AOE requiring a Shadow Pip. Plus, using Shrike could come in handy in some more difficult battles, and you want to get to it quickly.

7. Crit Block

I almost lumped this in with the rest of the stats, but with the enemies having a lot of critical chance in higher worlds, it would definitely help you to have a bit of block. You wouldn’t be using this to try to completely block a crit since that rarely happens, but the higher your block, the less damage you’ll take from critical hits. Like a bunch of stats on this list, you don’t need to sacrifice much for this, but I’d take block on a deck over pip conserve any day.

8. The Rest

This includes Pip Conversion, Mana, Healing, Stun Resistance, extra Accuracy, extra Resist, and extra Health. These are just about equal out at the bottom. You can take your pick as to what you think will help most, but you shouldn’t sacrifice any of the above stats for these. Specifically for a Fire, Pip conversion isn’t super helpful since most of your best spells are even numbered and you’re probably going to try to kill with one hit. Even if you don’t kill on your first hit, the cleanup spells are going to be 4-pips. You probably won’t have much of a choice for these stats, but I would probably go for extra accuracy on a Fire just to have a better chance to power through accuracy debuffs.

Recommended Gear Setup

This set incorporates all aspects ofOur Criteria, ending up with 172 percent damage. This is the set you will use for the vast majority of all battles. You will have to do quite a bit of farming and a bit of pack opening to get this perfected set, but if you don’t want to spend as much time or money, you can check out some other setups.

Alternative Balanced Setup

This set incorporates all aspects ofOur Criteria as always. This set is included because with only 2% less damage, you can practically match the previous set without having to farm for items like the Merciless Athame or Aphrodite ring. This is not the set I would personally go for, but it’s a comparable alternate for those of you that prefer the Dragoon’s way of farming. The most notable difference I’d say is that you only get the base 150 mana, but you get a significant amount more critical.

Resist Oriented Setup

This set incorporates all aspects ofOur Criteria, ending up with 145% damage and 54% resist. You won’t use this often, but if there’s a longer battle with hard hitting enemies, it could be better to use this sort of setup. This set does include Dragoon’s and crowns gear.

No Dragoon’s Setup

This set incorporates all aspects ofOur Criteria as always. With the Lemuria update, we finally have a semi-decent alternative to Dragoon’s Gear from 130. If you’re anything like me, the Dragoon grind can get quite ridiculous and sometimes you just don’t want to see King Det’s face anymore. I totally understand, which is why there’s this set! It’s not grinding free, but it’s more of a traditional farming experience and could be more fun! You will take quite a hit in your health, but you only sacrifice 2% damage and plus you get two extra jewel sockets (Triangle and Square)! You also miss out on some amazing item cards, but it’s up to you if you think those are necessary!

No Crowns Setup

This set incorporates all aspects ofOur Criteria as always. This one is for you out there that can’t or don’t want to spend any money on packs or bundles. This is totally understandable, and you don’t actually take that big of a hit! This is almost identical to the main recommended set, but with a different pet and mount. I love the hamsters because of the amazing item cards, but if you don’t want to play deckathalon, some other good pets would be the Enchanted Armament or the Ornery Kookaburra.

Min-Maxing Damage Setup

This is the only set that DOES NOT incorporate Our Criteria, and is the only set I would NEVER RECOMMEND. Min-Maxing means you maximize one stat while completely ignoring the rest. In my opinion, this was never a good idea, but with the new damage curve, it’s even less practical. You will have to sacrifice everything just for 11% extra damage (34 points). You’ll sacrifice pip chance, resist, mana, and crit among others… Not to mention the use of your deck with the Deckathlete deck. All in all, I’m actually kind of surprised that it’s not completely dreadful balance wise.
