a film so ashamed of itself that it not only left off the actors, but also the writer and director in the opening credits. horrendous as all they delivered maybe a sensible decision.

🇩🇪Deutsche Review ist Unten⬇️⬇️⬇️
🏴🇺🇸The plot revolves around 15-year-old Emerson (played by Summer H. Howell), who moves with her family to a remote, deeply religious community in Canada.Shortly after her arrival, a young girl is found dead. While the authorities assume a predator attack, Emerson believes she has seen a monster in the woods.Together with her new friend Delilah (Sarah-Maxine Racicot) and other girls from the community, Emerson is convinced that a gruesome creature dwells in the woods. The group decides to fight the supposed evil by performing rituals of their own devising. The deeper they get involved in these practices, however, the more they unleash their own inner demons.Unfortunately, this is what happens when a horror/thriller gets German funding.Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg…

Review by LEATH3RFACE ★★★
Although the subject matter of a teen girls coming of age movie isn't my cup of tea, this one was creative, imaginative and original in premise. I thought the two leads were fantastic and the rest of the cast did a great job. A well-rounded religious backwoods thriller that has a few twists along the way and the finale was pretty great. A damn good directorial debut for Carly May Borgstrom. She is def one to look for down the road. The pace was ok, it has a few slower moments but that is to be expected in this type of film. The cinematography was good and the writing was on the same level. I was kind of down the…

Review by Paulington ★★★★
Someone watched Foxfire and the Little House on the Prairie rape episode on the same night and decided they should merge them into a religious backwoods thriller about tree monsters and teen girl bonding.
Something feels decidedly off about this movie, and I don’t think it’s because it’s Canadian. While the story takes place in the 80s, or maybe the early 90s (it doesn’t ever specifically say), there is no nostalgia apparent on screen for anything that’s come before it, and it doesn’t reference any particular movie, or pull from pop culture of the era.
It’s wholly original, which makes it foreign in a way that feels unnatural, if only because most of today’s period thrillers rely so heavily on curbing from past classics.
This is going to mean something to someone somewhere down the road. It’s unique in its uniqueness. Too bad it’ll probably get lost in the weeds of today’s streaming landscape.

"Spirit in the Blood" (Canada/Germany, 2024)
